Meet Your Next Door Farmer

Are micro greens and micro farms the next big thing? Why Kupu Place is farming in their Nu‘uanu backyard.
Cousins Anthony Mau and Steven Yee founded Kupu Place in 2017 to grow premium products using less inputs and less land. The Nuʻuanu backyard where the cousins played football and hung out as kids is now an urban farm where the two use their training in agriculture and molecular bioscience to refine their technology for growing microgreens, aquaponic lettuces and edible flowers.

Microgreens can be 40 times higher in nutrients.

Microgreens can be 40 times more nutrient dense than their mature counterparts because they are harvested right after germination with all of the nutrients still intact. For consumers this means eating a handful of broccoli sprouts can get you more nutrients than eating a head of the cruciferous vegetable. For farmers this allows them the ability to use less resources while increasing the availability of nutrient rich food. Shop Kupu Place

We can’t wait to share Anthony and Steven’s story with you in our upcoming video series The Future is Local. Stay tuned for the premiere date.

The Future is Local

is a Small Batch series on local food makers and artisans. Over the past year our team has been documenting their challenges and aspirations and why communities benefit when we support an economy that’s more circular than vertical.
